Serpent Trail... completed it mate 💪 Me and my Serpent Trail... completed it mate 💪

Me and my friend H, started the year with a mission to #hike the Serpent Trail (a 64 mile trail winding from Haslemere to Petersfield). People run this distance in one hit, but we wanted to break it down into quarters and walk it at our own leisure. We both lead busy lives, so we took it like this...

February - Haslemere to Rake - 17 miles
March - Rake to Petworth - 22 miles
June - Petworth - Midhurst - 23 miles
September - Midhurst - Petersfield - 15 miles

Now the maths wizards among you will tot that together and make 77 miles. We went wrong, a lot 🙈 So yes there were extra miles... a lot of extra miles. But we found our way back on track and the girls did good.

The 3 day ultra is less than a month away and the sciatic nerve issues I'm having are still a big problem. The run training has had to go on hold for a bit (not ideal, but the best thing for me to do given the circumstances)

Today was a test for myself to see how I held up walking a longer distance. And I'm pleased to report that the walk itself was fine, slightly niggly, but fine. It's the after Icare I need to deal with. Stretching, bath, and ibuprofen are on the cards tonight, followed by a massage @bodyandmindphysio tomorrow. I'm hoping that'll be enough 🤞

I'm feeling positive. I'm feeling like I can still do this, but plan A (mostly run it) has changed to plan B (mostly walk it) and may even have to change to plan C (do whatever the heck I can of it!!!!) I'll listen to my body and adapt to what it's telling me.

Either way, I'm going and I'm going to give it my absolute best shot. Cornwall.... I'll see you soon 😎
Ahhhhh September. It's like the new January, right Ahhhhh September. It's like the new January, right? Full of fresh starts and endless possibilities. Kid 2 has gone back to school today (year 10) and kid 1 is starting his first year at college on Monday.

It's funny, when they were younger I used to love them going back to school. The summer holidays would be full on, roper exhausting trying to keep them entertained whilst also working and bringing in some moolah.

But now they're teens I'll kinda miss having them around the house in the daytime . Sure, they eat and eat and eat until the cupboards are bare to the point, as my son would describe 'even the kids in Ethiopa eat better than this' 🙈 and yes they expect lifts to be given with a mere minute of notice. But they're lovely company, very funny, and I'll even kinda miss hearing the shout Xbox outbursts, picking up wet towels from the bathroom floor, and all the loads of washing of clothes that have been worn for about an hour.... it's totally normal to have 3 outfit changes a day, right!?! 😜

That being said, it has been rather nice having a morning dog walk and returning to a lovely quiet house where I can sit and do my blog writing uninterrupted - I need silence to get in my writing zone.

How's the back to school thing going for you? Everyone back yet, or are you still clutching onto the lazy days of summer?

Not long before me and this one will be qualified Not long before me and this one will be qualified run leaders for @runnyhoneys 🥳

Who'd have thought it.... me, the moany one, the one who hated running, the one who would do anything to get out of it, yep me.... becoming a run leader.

That's the power of running for you. Once you get bitten by the bug, you get bitten hard. One day you're signing up to couch to 5k the next thing you know you're a run leader!

Just waiting to check whether we've passed the video training and get our DBS forms checked to make sure we're not international criminals then watch out running world we're coming for ya 🤣

It's hard not to notice your flaws in a photo isn' It's hard not to notice your flaws in a photo isn't it?

This was taken yesterday on a spa day I went on with my husband @champneysspas It was actually a birthday present I got him for his 50th back in July. And I think you'll agree it was rather a genius move on my behalf as it meant I got to go too 🤣

Anyway, this photo.

I was so close to deleting it. We all have a horrorshow photo right? I saw this and my eyes were immediately drawn to the stretch marks, the chin (or should I say chins!!), and the vastness of my thighs, not to mention the unevenness of my tan. Not my best photo for sure.

But as my finger hovered over the delete button I paused. Because this is me. And this photo captured me in a moment when I was relaxed, chilling in the sunshine, by the side of the lake, reading my book, listening to the ducks contentedly quacking, and enjoying the company of my husband. This absolutely captured a moment of tranquility. One where I wasn't thinking about my body in the slightest.

And that's why I didn't delete the picture. Because that moment was more than what my body looks like. It didn't bother me at the time and so it shouldn't bother me looking back at it now.

Now, when I look at that picture I see someone who is more than comfortable in her own skin. Someone who is absolutely fine with stripping down to a swimsuit in public. Who honours above anything else what her body can do, rather than what it looks like.

It's time to start loving our 'bad' photos as much as our 'good' ones.

The injury life is real 😣 Buggered up my glute The injury life is real 😣

Buggered up my glutes, hips, and lower back, and I've got an ultra in about 6 weeks time - it's never a good time to be injured, but this is really bloody inconvenient.

Seeing a physio, had my gait analysed, doing all the stretches and gentle strength exercises I can. Running low miles, walking when I can, will be getting on the exercise bike to keep the cardio ticking over.

I've no doubt I'll still be there, but it's not going to be how I planned it in my head. Time to make a new plan, be sensible, and just do what I can.
